Degrade

(What does the markup on these lyrics mean?)
I may not (be) in fear for my life from the sea creatures that I saw
Saw en - em -ies and start - ed running not because they chill - ed my bones
Old octopus, do not hear you a crying
Am not scared or feeling your-loss
Hate-what is coming out from the shallows and I won’t stand very long, aaaaa!
I hit them up, I went on out
And did-good-for the sea
The degrade that they had made
Prevents their beating me
No thing better to explain
This won’t be the end today
Of an - y - oneOld octopus, you been years on the lam and I’d put a price on your head
Would say “Get him dead or alive” but nobody is sure you can be dead
Talking octopus, do not hear you crying, am not scared or feeling your-loss
Hate-what is coming out from the shallows and I won’t stand very long
I hit them up, I went on out
And did-good-for the sea
The degrade that they had made
Prevents their beating me
No thing better to explain
The pirates will have revenge today
On the tentacled manAnd I don’t want to know, no no
I don’t know how anyone is scared!
Behind the scenes
- The first draft of this was written in late September 2013.
- However, like all the parodies I wrote that year, there were issues with it. In this case, it was originally about burning the mutated crew to death, and was sung about rather than to them (a hallmark of my old viewpoint characters was that they did not recognize how writing a parody in the second person could help and therefore rarely did so).
