Styx parody lyrics
Fooling Myself
For use with Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)
(What does the markup on these lyrics mean?)
Relax, take it easy
I see the world through my cynical eyes
He was a troubled man, so he tells
I got all that we know in my hand
But in hand does not get what know - ledge that I ask
I am fooling myself, I don’t believe it
Am kidding myself, I don’t believe it
Why must we be fail - ing to under - stand
When the future looks quite likely to be
Us busy deal - ing with his sinister plan
Stop and try to under - stand
It will be-your last stand
Am fooling myself, I don’t believe it
Am kidding myself, I don’t believe it
Get up, get back on my feet
Am the one none can beat and I know it
Come on and see what we got
Let’s take a good shot and don’t blow it
Behind the scenes
- The first version of this parody,
Fooling Myself (The Panicky Man),
appeared in a comic strip I wrote in late 2013.
- Like all the parodies I wrote that year, it was problematic in some way. In this case, it was that the original was fan fiction, based on what was happening in the strip at the time, about worrying needlessly about a crazy enemy whom a mental ward had contained.
