Behind the scenes
- The first version of this parody appeared in a comic strip I wrote in late September 2013.
- However, like all the parodies I wrote that year that I have not outright disowned (which is most of them), the parody had to be edited to fit the current canon. The line and a half
He had the evil laugh at you/He’ll lock you in a duel where you come out the fool
is not original; that part is replacing an insult and an ineffective plan to wreak vengeance by dueling with a torch. Also, the last verse had to be rewritten from scratch, as it was written from the perspective of Will Turner carrying on that it was ridiculous for Disney to separate him from Elizabeth, and referred to Davy Jones as Squidbeard.
- Still, this parody does have the distinction of being the first parody I wrote that had enough to do with official Pirates of the Caribbean canon that it could be saved. Everything before it was either too much fan fiction or just plain off-topic.
