More songs have been listened to than parodied, and this is why.

On this page, I explain that my creative process starts with figuring out a song’s fodder rating and deciding whether to parody it from there. To give some examples, I will discuss two Green Day albums, Insomniac and Nimrod, and why I only used them for several parody singles rather than parody album features.

Insomniac

I have all of this album on my iPod, but the same is far from true for the site. Here is why.

Armatage Shanks

3 fodder.

A song about being a pessimist. It is not particularly relevant or irrelevant to Pirates of the Caribbean, which proves to be the general trend throughout the two albums.

Brat

3 fodder.

A song about how nothing good can last. It could be described as being cut from the same cloth as Armatage Shanks, and the same indifference arises between it and PotC.

No Pride

3 fodder.

Some PotC characters have less pride than others, but do any of them have none?

Bab’s Uvula Who?

3 fodder.

The characters found I self destruct relevant, but were less happy to hear the word complaining.

86

3 fodder.

Mostly this song just states over and over that there is no return from 86.

Stuart and the Ave

2 fodder.

In terms of language, this is the worst song on the album. But not to worry, not only does it have no hooks, but the use of the phrase Seasons change renders it actively irrelevant to the tropics, and to top it all off, it presents a red herring when it uses the word stupid.

Walking Contradiction

4 fodder.

The words are not terribly easy to rhyme, but, having had to deal with quite the contradiction myself (if you cut your heart out, how can you be here talking to me?) I put this one, just barely, as good fodder.

Nimrod

It should be noted that what follows is not a complete list of the songs on the album. Three songs are missing. The eighth song on the album is one, and I do not even know what it was called, for it was so filthy as to deserve being erased from my music library entirely. Second, there was this death metal song, Take Back, which was just plain weird, and the words in that one were difficult to make out anyway. The final omission is a total ballad by the title of Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) (I usually dislike slow songs).

Hitchin’ a Ride

2 fodder.

The song contains little of note, except the use of the terrifying (and easy to avoid) word salmonella.

The Grouch

3 fodder.

Ignore all the curse words in this one and not a lot remains. Besides, it is already a funny song, telling of a guy getting cranky as he grows old and realizing it.

Redundant

2 fodder.

Just too difficult to rhyme - or work with.

Scattered

3 fodder.

Not much to say about this one, with the bedroom floor strewn with pictures, and remembering and wishing for things.

Last Ride In

0 fodder.

Yes, Green Day did do an instrumental this one time. Believe me, I was surprised, too.

Jinx

3 fodder.

This broad description of doing things wrong is another case of nothing being particularly right or wrong with the song.

Haushinka

2 fodder.

The bizarre, impossible to rhyme name says about all of it, although the mention of cigarettes does not help either.

Walking Alone

3 fodder.

This one wanders all over the place. All in all, nothing is too right or wrong with it.

Reject

3 fodder.

I find this song to be great to recite when modern technology gets annoying (asking what makes it think my master plan includes it, shutting it up because it does what it is told), but not so great for anything old fashioned.

King for a Day

2 fodder.

Too many modern, specific things in this one for it to lend itself to pirates.

I am fine with this as long as nobody expects me to parody it, however. One should not feel the need for me to get a 5-fodder song right after it. In fact, an instance of this happening turned out to be a horror story.

Prosthetic Head

4 fodder.

There are certain hooks here, with the suicide makeover, the lack of explanations, and the blood.
